CALIFORNIA — August 19, 2026 — Retro-pop artist Jacob Devin invites listeners into a world of imagination, emotion and self-discovery with “Fantasy,” the title track of his debut album Fantasy. Blending a funky, retro-inspired sound with an intimate exploration of relationships and personal growth, the song captures Devin’s desire to create music that encourages listeners to embrace life, vulnerability and their own sense of possibility.
The concept for “Fantasy” began with just one word. Before entering the studio, Devin had written “fantasy” on paper without knowing exactly where the idea would lead. As the song came together, he and his collaborators recognized its energy and realized it could become more than a standalone track. “Fantasy” ultimately became the single and the creative umbrella for the album.
For Devin, the word represents the world people can create through connection and imagination. “It just means enjoying this fantasy. It’s a world that you’ve created with someone,” he explains.
That idea reflects a larger theme throughout Devin’s music: finding light in life and creating something meaningful from personal experiences. He describes Fantasy as a reflection of his growth as both a person and an artist, particularly the process of becoming comfortable with vulnerability. After spending years writing, singing, providing vocal arrangements and contributing to other artists’ music, Devin began focusing more intentionally on his own artistry around age 28.
That period became an opportunity to let go of older versions of himself and embrace his experiences rather than hide them. Music became part of that process, teaching him that vulnerability can be a strength and giving him a way to communicate emotions he once struggled to express.
“The most difficult part is I just wanted to make sure I was doing my most authentic self,” Devin says of creating the album.
His creative process remains intentionally open-ended. Devin says his approach changes depending on the producer he is working with. He typically communicates the emotion he wants to express before entering the studio, but enjoys the mystery of beginning with a blank slate and discovering where the music leads. His songs are built around storytelling, melodies and vocal expression, allowing each track to develop its own identity.
While “Fantasy” serves as the album’s colorful, imaginative centerpiece, Devin also embraces a more exposed side of himself on songs such as “Runner,” which he describes as his most vulnerable track. The contrast reflects the range of Fantasy, a project shaped by both the desire to have fun and the courage to confront real emotions.
Ultimately, Devin hopes listeners walk away from Fantasy feeling encouraged to create their own version of happiness. “I take it just to have fun and like love life and create your own fantasy,” he says. “To find, to bring, you know, the fantasy within yourself.”
With more music ahead, Devin plans to continue developing his sound, voice and storytelling while carrying the spirit of “Fantasy” into future projects.
