International Newcomer ivee Rebels Against the Establishment with Debut Single, “Monroe”

LONDON - From the beginning of popular music, the London music scene has been at the center of pop culture and the birthplace of new genres. The latest rising artist from the UK scene is ivee, an 18-year-old genre-bending, self-producing pop artist.

As a fierce and confident singer/songwriter, ivee has jumped into the music industry and is ready to fly. “Quite a lot of artists are going out trying to promote locally, but I want to jump out into the world and see how wide I can go at the start, especially with features from South Korea,” said ivee.

Focusing on making culturally inclusive music, ivee blends K-pop and hip hop to create the foundation for her sound. She adds London pop, trap, and drill elements into her music to create an Eastern melting of soft music on the ears and dance floor ready.

“From the beginning of popular music, London has been influential,” she said. “It’s kinda the center of pop culture. Now K-pop artists and companies try to use Western sounds in their music. So, it’s important to keep evolving with music that is accessible.”

“Monroe” featuring Ted Park is ivee’s debut single slated to drop on March 11. The track is from an upcoming concept album showcasing the trials and tribulations of growing up and rebelling against the status quo. “Monroe” begins ivee’s rebellious story by accentuating a contrast between a vocally driven R&B bridge, explosive pre-choruses, and swaggering hip-hop anti-drop.

The track chronicles her decision to step away from the normal and become a rebel to find her true self. With dark undertones and themes, “Monroe” is the empowerment song for 2022.

“Most of the song talks about things wanting to move on and taking the first step to empower yourself,” she explained. “I wanted to make this album all-inclusive so that it can apply to anyone. ‘Monroe’ is the first step.”

With the industry flooded with pop artists, ivee stands out mainly because of her unique sound. “I like to get random samples of 808 drums that create a nice blend. It gives the song its unique sound,” she said.

When writing “Monroe,” she said the beat and vibe were there, but she wanted more for her debut single. “Most songs flourish when many people in the studio bounce ideas off. With ‘Monroe,’ I knew I wanted the hook to have an anti-drop.”

Collaborating with co-producer Geek Boy and Ted Park laying down a verse, ‘Monroe’ was born. But working in the studio is not new for ivee. She began playing drums and piano around age ten, and then by 12, she dreamed of being a DJ and began producing music. She attended the prestigious BRIT School for Performing Arts, where her passion for performing and making music garnered attention from multiple music labels.

Recently signed to The Label Entertainment, ivee is giving notice that she has her sights on the global market. 2022 is going to be the breakout year for this London native. With more singles and an album on the way, a London tour is scheduled for autumn.

“It’s time to go big or go home. Since this song is my debut, I want to reach as many people as possible,” she said.
