MusicsWeek: What experiences or events in your life have inspired your latest album?
Mars: Unhealthy relationships, feeling alone, and self-reflection.
MusicsWeek: Can you share your thoughts on the importance of storytelling in your music?
Mars: Storytelling in my music I think is important, not only to tell people my experience, but also to relate to other people.
MusicsWeek: How do you find your unique voice in a crowded music landscape?
Mars: Honestly, I'm still trying to find my voice.
MusicsWeek: What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
Mars: I hope people hear my songs and feel less alone.
MusicsWeek: How has your upbringing influenced your musical style and themes?
Mars: Growing up for me was hard, and my living situation with my family wasn't great, so lately I've found myself writing a lot about that.
MusicsWeek: What’s your favorite venue to perform at, and what makes it special?
Mars: Any small place, and intimate is really cool. Although I do dream of selling out big venues someday.
MusicsWeek: How do you handle criticism or negative feedback about your music?
Mars: I don't pay attention to it. Doesn't Matter to me. I keep the people who love me and love what I do close to my heart and forget the haters.
MusicsWeek: Can you describe your typical songwriting routine or environment?
Mars: Most of the time my songwriting ideas don't happen with me sitting down and saying “I'm gonna write a song now”, I think my song lyrics need to come organically, so I'm always writing down ideas that come to my mind no matter where I am.
MusicsWeek: What impact do you think your music has on your audience?
Mars: I'm not sure honestly. I think for me to say what I think would be taking away from what my audience thinks. I want people to decide the impact my music has on them, not me to decide for them.
MusicsWeek: Are there any songs or albums that you consider pivotal in your artistic development?
Mars: This is a tough one. I have so many artists and songs that I love, and that I think played a part in my development.
