MusicsWeek: Who or what are your biggest musical influences and how have they shaped your sound and style?
Loraine: I grew up being obsessed with Christina Aguilera’s voice and Britney Spears’ dancing. Nowadays, if I really would have to pick, my three favorite artists are BANKS, Taylor Swift and Chris Stapleton. In terms of producing and songs, my all-time favorite albums are “Back to basics” from Christina Aguilera, “Tell me you love me” from Demi Lovato, the Soundtrack from “A star is born” and the Soundtrack from “The greatest showman”. The best live performances I have experienced are Kings of Leon concerts!
I am not sure how this has impacted my work exactly. It’s probably mostly about absorbing and internalizing all that wonderful music, which has likely become a part of what comes through authentically for me.
MusicsWeek: Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process? Do you have any specific rituals or routines?
Loraine: It mostly starts with a melody in my head that I will record on my phone. Then it’s about sitting down and writing the song. I have a sense of what the song should be about and then I don’t overthink it and go with my intuition.
MusicsWeek: What do you find to be the biggest challenge in your creative process and how do you overcome it?
Loraine: When a song does not seem to come easily, patience and trust in the process.
MusicsWeek: How has your music evolved over the years, and what factors have contributed to that evolution?
Loraine: I think it goes hand in hand with my personal growth. And the more you “just do it”, the more experience you get, and the more you evolve.
MusicsWeek: What is your favorite part about performing live and how do you connect with your audience during shows?
Loraine: The connection is my favorite part, it is mainly about being present and having fun.
MusicsWeek: Have you collaborated with other artists? If so, what do you enjoy most about collaborating and who would you like to work with in the future?
Loraine: I am very happy with my current producer, Stella Scholaja. She is very talented, patient with me and determined to work together to find the right sound for the song. It’s a fun process.
My dream is a duet with Gavin Degraw and to do a song with Regi, a wildly popular DJ and media phenomenon in Belgium.
MusicsWeek: What message do you hope your music conveys to your listeners and how do you want to impact their lives?
Loraine: I would love them to be and feel inspired, feel hope and know that you can live your dream, whatever it is your heart desires.
MusicsWeek: What have been some of the most significant lessons you've learned about the music industry since starting your career?
Loraine: Don’t worry too much about what anyone tells you, keep working on your music and your personal development.
MusicsWeek: Can you share any details about upcoming projects or new music you're working on that your fans can look forward to?
Loraine: My new EP “Power from Love” is out now! I will be performing it live in different places. I am also working on the next album that will have a little lighter 80s synth vibe sound to it! This album is planned for early summer 2025.
MusicsWeek: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are trying to find their voice and break into the industry?
Loraine: Keep working on finding your authenticity and keep studying the ones that are succesful.
