MusicsWeek: Can you share your journey into the music industry? What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

Leah Dibut: My passion for music comes as far as I can possibly remember. I have memories of always having music playing in the house growing up wether it was Salsa, or Michael Jackson, music was always a huge part of my life. Between my parents being professional salsa dancers to my grandpa being in love with the Beetles I think music chose me and was meant to be a part of my story/life.

MusicsWeek: How would you describe your musical style and what artists or genres have influenced you the most?

Leah Dibut: This question has always been a bit difficult for me to answer because there are so many people I want to cram into a whole sentence but for sure the most influential would have to be first starting out with my roots of the Yoruba drums, Ricky Martin, Selena Quintanilla, Michael Jackson.. and the list goes on. I’ve always considered myself a genre-less girly.

MusicsWeek: What is your creative process like when writing and composing new music? Do you have any rituals or routines?

Leah Dibut: It depends on what I am creating in the moment. If I have truly want to express myself through my lyrics I will usually just start with a guitar or piano and lay out everything I want to say and start comping. In another vibe or feel like if its more of a dance and have fun moment I usually prefer to have a nice groove so that the melodies flow more naturally in the moment.

MusicsWeek: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable performance or tour experience you've had so far?

Leah Dibut: One of my favorite moments has to be when I performed in West Palm Beach (my current home town) at a festival called “Sunfest”. That was a huge milestone for me and my career which opened a bunch of doors for me. I remember I only had 2 weeks to curate a 30 min show. I put my blood sweat and tears into that show and I’ll forever be proud of that.

MusicsWeek: What themes or messages do you hope to convey through your music?

Leah Dibut: I want my fans to know that I’m here to tell their stories and turn them into art. I am a firm believer that we are all connected and go through the same experiences and emotions, I want to be that artist that they can go to wether they want to listen to something happy or sad. I definitely want to be a diverse artist so I can connect with as many people as I can in the world.

MusicsWeek: How do you handle creative blocks or challenges in the songwriting process?

Leah Dibut: Stepping into the simplicities of life. Going back to my core values and space. I usually love to journal my thoughts or like how I said earlier, simply just going outside for some fresh air and reflect.

MusicsWeek: What do you think sets you apart from other artists in the industry today?

Leah Dibut: My authenticity. There is no one that looks like me, talks like me or makes music like me. I don’t think I am trying to be anything else other than myself.

MusicsWeek: In your opinion, how has the evolution of technology and social media impacted the way artists promote their music?

Leah Dibut: I feel like it’s an AMAZING tool. Technology has definitely had its advantages and disadvantages but I will say we have never been this connected and informative. I honestly feel like we are entering an era where all people want to see is REAL content. Going into someone’s life and getting a feel of how their day to day is like or how they think through a rectangle energetic box seems pretty cool to me in my opinion. Its sad that some people don’t use it for the right reasons but for sure with the way I’ve used it its helped and inspired me in many aspects of my life.

MusicsWeek: Who would you love to collaborate with in the future, and why?

Leah Dibut: I would LOVE to collaborate with Bruno Mars. He has been a huge influence in my life musically. He keeps real music alive still. I can’t wait for that moment to come.

MusicsWeek: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians looking to break into the industry?

Leah Dibut: BE YOU and put time into your mind and body. I promise this has saved me so many times from the rocky times in my career and even my personal life. Once you have those three things very saturated and into your lifestyle everything else will flow.
