One of the most important live moments in music history is heading back to cinemas as the famous Madison Square Garden shows from John Lennon and Yoko Ono are set for a global theatrical release. Tickets are now available for POWER TO THE PEOPLE: John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band – Live at the One To One Concert, New York City, 1972, which will begin a limited worldwide cinema run starting April 29, 2026.
The timing of the release also marks 57 years since John and Yoko were married, and the film presents what is considered the most complete version of the only full concerts Lennon performed following the breakup of The Beatles. Rather than being a simple rerelease, the project is the result of an extensive restoration project that has taken two decades to complete. Overseen by Sean Ono Lennon and supported by a team of seven time GRAMMY® winners, the footage has been carefully restored both physically and digitally frame by frame.
This updated 2026 edition was directed by Simon Hilton and produced by Mercury Studios. It includes a newly edited version of the concert along with a completely fresh audio mix handled by engineers Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon. Some screenings will also feature enhanced sound formats including immersive 5.1 Surround and Dolby Atmos, allowing audiences to experience the atmosphere of 1972 New York City with modern sound quality.
The movie documents the atmosphere of two fully sold out performances where John, Yoko and Elephant’s Memory played in front of 40,000 people. The setlist includes well known songs such as "Instant Karma!," "Imagine," "Mother," and "New York City." The film also includes uncommon live performances of "Come Together" and "Hound Dog," along with Yoko’s "Don’t Worry Kyoko." Special guest appearances from Stevie Wonder, Sha Na Na and Melanie Safka Schekeryk are also featured, ending with a powerful performance of "Give Peace a Chance."
The One To One concerts were also significant for their charitable purpose. The shows generated more than $1.5 million, which would equal about $11.5 million today, to support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than five decades later, that same message of "Power to the People" is being shared again through this new cinema release.
