Liam Payne's family has shared how they came together to mark what would have been his 32nd birthday.
Almost a year after his passing, the relatives of the One Direction star paid tribute to him with a heartfelt celebration.
On Sunday, Liam’s sister Nicola offered a glimpse of the occasion on Instagram Stories, posting photos from a bowling alley where the family had gathered to remember him.
In several pictures, Nicola included shots of their parents, Karen and Geoff, as well as a scoreboard that featured the name of his other sister, Ruth.
“A year later, same bowling alley, different lanes … one huge part of our family missing,” Nicola, 37, wrote across one of the images, suggesting that Liam’s 31st birthday had also been celebrated with bowling.
Her post followed another emotional message she shared on Instagram on 29 August, the date of her younger brother’s birthday.
“A year ago today, we were so full of hope and excitement for what the years ahead would bring you,” she wrote. “That night, celebrating your birthday with bowling and McDonald’s, we celebrated you, your show, your dreams, and spoke of all the plans you had for the future.”
She went on, “We ended the evening with a hug, telling you how proud we were and how much we loved you.”
Nicola then reflected that this may have been the final time she saw her brother.
“If I had known that would be the last time I’d see you, I would have said so much more,” she wrote. “I wish I could step into a time machine and relive that night and hug you tighter, capture your smile and voice, ask more questions, and write it all down so I’d never forget.”
Liam died after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 16 October. He was 31.
